Welcome:
After working in Los Angeles with producers such as Andy Johns, Jimbo Barton, Carmen Rizzo, Elliott Smith, Scott Storch and John Lowson, I moved back to Boston in fall of 2003.

Since then I have opened a Pro Tools|HD3 recording studio, outfitted with world-class gear and have been working with many artists and production companies throughout the U.S. I hope you like what you see and hear here.
News:

A couple of things:
37' Productions artists The Dejas song, "Blanket Song" is in the opening credits of "Beautiful Life"...with Mischa Barton from The OC/ produced by Ashton Kutcher. Its the number one viewed video on youtube today:):) Check it outon YouTube.

Long time no update! Well, wait no more:
Sarah Blacker's debut, "The Only Way Out Is Through", has been receiving much critical acclaim the past few months. I've also recently been playing with Sarah, who is being dubbed "New England's Joni Mitchell". Please keep your ears open!
Vary Lumar has also finished their lastest release, "Plasticolor Coma". Fans of the band's debut CD, "Waiting Room" will not be disappointed, although may be pleasantly surprised at the latest evolution.
The Dejas are about to release "Speeding Softly", their debut full length. The 2008 Spotlight Award winners have taken their intimate live show and we have produced a full blown pop extravaganza! I think you'll enjoy this beautiful music created by two beautiful people!
With all of that, I'm off to prepare for a string of dates with Girls, Guns & Glory, as well as a November residency at Toad with Sarah Blacker. Hope to hear from you soon!

It's been quite the month everyone! Another 37' Live! show went off and was a smashing success. Thanks to Bone Dry System, Totem, Petrina Foley and Seventh Room for making the night a great one. We're looking to do another one in early autumn, around September or October, and it could very well be another CD release party (more on that as the date approaches).

Just a little news: Tim Mahoney's as-yet-untitled 7-song EP is now finished. Jason Nute and Dave Leitch of BDS played wonderfully on this one. This is a very cool guitar driven pop record, so check it out!

Vary Lumar was in last week starting their first in a series of 4 5-song EP's to be released over a 16 month span. This is a slight departure musically for them, although I prefer to think of it as a natural growth. I seriously love this band! Keep your ears open. You can check out photos from the week, as well as from other thing 37',here.

That's all for now. Thank you all, I've been great!

I have thought many times of posting in the past month. In the midst of the twelve hour days, the deadlines both real and self-imposed, the metamorphosis of relationships and the reconciliatory nature of working with artists in a decidedly capitalistic world, I invariably found myself with something more pressing to do.

I now find myself nearing the end of a very long and consistent run of work. Thanks to the Dejas, Sarah Blacker, Mith Niles and Lannen Fall for the majority of this creative spurt. I’m looking forward to the success of this music and people’s reaction to all of it.

Having said that, there is another impetus for my posting. I was recently informed by Jeff Lipton that Potluck Con, the offspring of TapeOpCon, will not continue this year. My reaction was akin to that of someone who had just been told they’d been laid off from their job.It was incredulous to me.

I attended my first “Con” in 2004. I had just moved back to Boston from Los Angeles a few months earlier and was worn and weary of rejuvenating my career in my new old city. After working in a city where everyone appeared to be involved in some form of media or have one job in entertainment or another, how could I find a similar community in a city that I have loved but has eared a reputation for being territorial, to put it mildly. The industry is tough everywhere, but there have been too many producers/engineers in Boston with whom the words “adversarial” and “curmudgeonly” have been apropos. It was Memorial Weekend five years ago, through a prompting of Travis, an L.A. friend and colleague, that brought me to New Orleans for a “meeting of the recording geeks”.

What I’d discovered was this: There were many out there like me, working with a passion for creating and finding others who were like-minded. I was part of a subculture! There are people throughout the world with whom I shared language and this larger sense of being, this continuum of a trade that many have plied before us, and hopefully many will after. I knew that I would gravitate to this event every year for the same inspirational energy.

Anthony Bourdain has written and spoken about this phenomena many times in relation to cooking, and I think the corollaries are very similar: the shared avoidance of a “normal” workspace or schedule, the vocational languages of both, the reverence with which we hold the true greats of our chosen professions, the fraternal nature of our get-togethers. The lives of chefs and the lives of recording engineers are parallels at the least, kindred souls at best. I’m proud to be part of my subculture, and very thankful to all of you who share in it with me.

Thanks to Craig Schumacher, Larry Crane, Hillary Johnson, John Bagliapucci, Nancy Hess, Matt Boudreau, Mark Ruebel, Mike Caffrey, Jeff Lipton, Steve Massey, Ross Hogarth, Mary Podio, Pete and Melissa Weiss, Stewart Cararas, Darron Burke, John Vanderslice, Ken Kukubo, Tim Shea and Kathleen Higgins-Shea, Brian Charles, Jeff Lipton, Maria Rice, Jessica Thompson, Dan Workman, Sasha Zand, Mark Allen Miller, JJ and Christel Golden, Andy Hong, Mike Wells, and anyone else I’m sure I’m forgetting. I hope to see all of you again and share in the continuum.

I apologize to everyone who reads this for not updating in what seems like forever. Here's the scoop:
The Dejas are currently recording their new full length and things are moving along at quite the pace. Look for a release in early spring.
Mith Niles has finished his monstrous 16 song CD. Keep your ears open for it. A lot of great musicians on two coasts performed on this one.
Chrissy Cerretani's EP is close to finished and, I have to say, she's putting forth a strong effort, especially for a first effort.
I'm mixing a song for the new Montgomerys CD on Naked Ear. I was also the fortunate soul who got to play bass on the CD, so Check it out when you can.
Lannen Fall is scheduled to come in and track a new EP this month.
Petrina Foley: The M.I.A. Sessions will be finished this month, I promise. Look for it at http://www.musicisart.ws and look for more artists there soon!
I promise, promise, promise to update more often. Hope the holidays see you all well.

Two big CD releases this week:
Petrina Foley has her 5 song disc, "Proper Goodbye" and Bone Dry System has released its 6 song effort, "Bardo". Both CD's will be available at the first event I'm putting on as 37' Live! at Church on October 18th, along with Vary Lumar and St. Helena. Check out my Shows page for more info. In the meantime, I'm getting back to work.

FINALLY!!! Back in business everyone! Hope you all missed me a lot. I'll catch you up on some news:
Vary Lumar's "Waiting Room", a band I just worked with, was named Album of the Month in the Northeast Performer. I feel it's the best completed work I've done at my studio thus far and I wanted to share the news with my friends. The review is right here.

In addition to Vary Lumar, here's a list of some other things happening at my studio just south of Boston:

Craig Ahern (known for his work with the Boston Philharmonic) released his debut solo classical guitar CD and it's getting rave reviews. Craig has actually started a second CD with me last week. He's an incredible player; you should all check him out.
Crowded Streets have finished recording their debut EP and we'll start mixing at the end of the month. These guys can really play and have some really good songs, so stay tuned!
Petrina Foley's solo effort is almost done! Brad McCarthy and I are hard at work on mixing and it's sounding great already. With her voice it's hard to NOT make it sound great. There will be a live performance from my studio in August posted on Music is Art, so stay tuned for that!
Bone Dry System has also finished tracking and will be mixed as soon as Petrina's is finished. We're all excited about the tracks so far, so this'll be a fun one!
Seventh Room is in the middle of vocal tracking and everything's moving along. For you fans of heavy rock, you'll dig this one.
Smite the Righteous will be in this week, Terminally Aborted Ghost will be in for preproduction next weekend. They're both great metal bands for you metal fans.
The Camilo Project is being mastered by Jeff Lipton at Peerless. Check it out when you can!
I have been collaborating on mixes with Getcha Popcorn Ready. ANYONE NEED BEATS? CONTACT THEM!!!
Crissy Cerretani's debut EP has begun! Mike LeVesque comes in to lay down the fat groove that we all know and love. You'll be hearing a lot more from her soon!

That's all for now. Be sure to check back for more soon! I promise this time!

A lot of things here everyone:
Jack Russell has started their debut CD. Bass and drums were done at 37' and, when the guitar parts get finished, Tim will come back to 37' to do his vocals. Stay tuned!
Bone Dry System is in to record a VERY long-awaited CD. This one's moving along fairly quickly and we're all ecstatic about the results so far.
Petrina Foley's CD is well under way. Guitars should be finished this week, then on to vocals!
Craig Ahern (Boston Philharmonic) has been working on a CD of solo classical guitar/lute pieces. I tell you, there's nothing like hearing a great artist do what they do best.
That's all for now everyone! There are some interesting things on the horizon, including a lot of mixing, so stay tuned!

Early 2008 update:
The new Girls, Guns & Glory CD has just been completed. This is the band's first post-BMA Award effort, and all of us believe it's their best yet. Stay tuned!
Wicked Witch has been tracking at the studio over the past few months and, when finished, will be sent to Paul Hager to be mixed. Paul's a great engineer, so this is sure to turn out amazing.
Hellspeak has also tracked two songs and have currently made plans to complete their first full length CD here.
Tracking for Petrina Floey's debut has begun. Mike LeVesque played some killer tracks, and I finished my bass tracks. Now for the fun stuff!
I've got a couple of great bands coming in in March, so I'll update you all on those projects as they go. Also, if you get a chance, check out the Music Is Art blog by my friend Danielle. It's on my links page and it's amazing! Slainte!

I've been slacking here, but for good reason.
I've finished a record with a great band called Vary Lumar called "Waiting Room", being mastered on Tuesday at Peerless. The project started in late June and got wrapped up for good Wednesday, so it's been a long time coming. In other news:

Evan Goodrow stopped by in August to put the finishing touches on his latest.
Also in August, I was in L.A. to do some PT'ing for Jimbo Barton on Echo Jet.
Old friend Mith Niles has been to and fro, from Cali to Mass, to put the finishing touches on tracking his disc.
Mixed two songs for Mike G. and Associates and have been wrapping up GrandEvolution.
Without a Name has been working on their debut CD.
From RI, Geomancer mixed two EPIC songs for their disc.
Andy Materna started, and finished, his debut 4 song EP.
Preproduction has started with Petrina Foley, formerly of Oddway, with myself and Brad McCarthy of Stillpoint Sound. This should be a good one!

Wow, four months is a long time! OK, on to the news:
Static of the Gods'CD, "Cycles Follow Signs" was released on April 17th on Recordhead (former home to Robert Pollard of Guided bt Voices).
Gina Rose Hughes's debut, "Save My Place", is due for release...any minute now...
As for now, her song "Dream", as well as at least two John Truscelli songs, "Long Lost Friend" and "Never Gonna Let You Down", will be featured in the show "One Good Turn with Joey T.", a reality show about the lives of those touched by cancer.
Girls, Guns & Gloryhave been chosen by the Boston Phoenix as best new artist, and their song, "Big Man", has been featured on ESPN and in ads for Radio Shack.
All tracking has been finished for GrandEvolution, with some exciting news pending. Also, Mike G & Associates, headed by Mike Gendron of GE, will start tracking at the studio this weekend!
Mith Niles flew out from San Fransisco to track more for his stuff.
Dave Foley came in to track and mix three songs in two eight hour sessions!!!
Oddway is currently halfway through their nationwide tour and, apparently, getting great crowds everywhere! One new fan is Clyde Stubblefield, who IS the funky drummer on James Brown's "Funky Drummer"!
That should be enough info to tide y'all over for now. More news after TapeOpCon 2007!
May 14, 2007
Here it is, short but sweet:
Jay Frigoletto of Master Suite did a rockin' job with Oddway's Away From the Everyday! The CD Release party is at Felt on February 1, so come out!
Mixed a track for Girls, Guns & Glory this week. The song's great, the band's great, so look for it
Starting mixes this week for Gina Rose Hughes, a phenomenal singer/sonwriter from Colorado, before heading out to L.A. for a little business and pleasure.
Oh, and vote for Jen Johnson as best female vocalist in the noise poll!

Sorry for the absence of listings folks. Here's some news for you:

The first Oddway full length CD is nearing completion! Final touches will be done this coming week, then it's off to Studio Metronome and the great Jay Frigoletto to be mastered.

GrandEvolution has been in to complete a full length of their own in recent weeks. Be sure to check this one out!

One down, one to go!

The Static of the Gods first full-length CD, Cycles Follow Signs has been completed! A day of final touches will see, in my humble opinion, the best work to date from me as well as the band. They all performed their songs so well it made my job easy to say the least. The CD should be available in time for their NEMO showcase at the Paradise Lounge on September 29th, so go to the show and get a copy!
In the meantime, go out on September 5th and Get the Dark New Day release, The Back Porch Sessions on Warner Music Group to hear what I do when a mastermind (Mr. Jimbo Barton) is at the helm.

Next up, the first full-length CD for Oddway. Stay tuned...
Aug 29, 2006
The transition is now complete. I have taken over Altitude Studios in Rockland, MA and are operating under the 37' Productions umbrella. I am personally adding my newly aquired Pro Tools HD|3 rig to the equipment list, as well as all of my other goodies. The website for the studio will be up soon. I'm currently working on 2006 full-length releases for Static of the Gods and Oddway, so this is a very busy and opportune time. More updates to come after TapeOpCon 2006!
Jun 9, 2006
I've just finished recording Eddie Pepitone, veteran of "Last Comic Standing", "Old School", as well as many late night shows. His comedy has truly unique individual and working on this project had me in tears from laughing so hard. We did all of Eddie's parts for the skits at Noise in the Attic Studio in Scituate. Many thanks to Paul Stewart, Bobby D of Backroads Entertainment and all the folks at Exotic Recordings for a great time.
Apr 6, 2006
The new Oddway disc, "The Beachwood Sessions", is now finished, mastered by Jeff Lipton of Peerless. The song "Sunset Sunrise" is on my SOUNDS page. Check it out!
Mar 25, 2006
Big thanks go out to Lexi Kahn of "The Noise" for listing Static of the Gods' "The Nature of the Wave" in her Top 12 albums of 2005. The EP was #9 on the list, but the band and I hope to move up higher once the full length CD is done.
Feb 15, 2006
Starting mixes for the Oddway CD today. The tracks came out well. Now I must live up to them!

I'll post something after the indespensible Jeff Lipton masters it.
Jan 31, 2006
I got back from L.A. this week after engineering a session with Jimbo Barton for a band on Warner Bros. called Dark New Day. The session is for an upcoming acoustic EP of songs off their debut CD entitled "Twelve Year Silence", as well as some new songs. The string arraingements are, in the words of Jimbo, awesome, and I have to say so are his mixes (as usual). Look for the EP in spring/summer.
Jan 29, 2006
Happy New Year everybody!!! Here's a beginning of the year update:

I've started working with the band Oddway recently. They have a really cool retro sound and a great singer in Petrina Foley. I'll post some songs as they come to fruition.

Also, vote for Static of the Gods for Best New Band on the Noise board: http://www.thenoiseboard.com.
More to come...

The lastest Static of the Gods quote, from New England Performer:

"The songs are well-written throughout, and the production is top notch..."

check out their site from my Links page or their song "Supergenius" on my Sounds page.

I hope I speak for all of us in saying our thoughts and prayers are with those in New Orleans. I'd just heard from a colleague that mentioned the dire straits everyone seems to be in, so if anyone reading this can donate any time and/or money, please do so. Every little bit helps.

Tonight is the CD Release for Static Of The Gods' "The Nature Of The Wave". Here are excerpts from the first in-print review:

"...Their debut EP, The Nature of the Wave, is seventeen minutes of pure ear candy. Recorded in Allston, MA, the EP boasts a surprisingly robust sound for local disc..."

I did some tracking at Altitude Studios today with Grand Evolution. Drew Townson is producing the project, and has gotten some great tracks so far. We tracked guitars today, with vocals and more to go...
Jul 24, 2005
Last weekend I had the pleasure of working at Noise in the Attic Studios, owned by Rob Loyot, a great guy and even better sax player. The project was a mix for Minky Starshine out of Rhode Island. I did three songs, with the hopes of doing more as I really liked the Material and the fact that I was given room to experiment. Song samples will be posted as soon as they are mastered.
Jul 16, 2005
I'm currently mixing the Static of the Gods record. The tracking was done at Mad Oak (one of my favorite rooms in town) and Altitude (a cool, funky little place run by Drew Townson), with some overdubbing done at my place, which I call The Bullpen. We're all excited about the way this one's coming out. Check it out on my Sounds page.
Apr 24, 2005
It looks like the John Truscelli record is FINALLY going to be mastered. For those of you who haven't had Jeff Lipton work on a record at Peerless Mastering, I highly recommend him. He's only done one record of a band I worked with but he made the most of it and stands by his excellent work. You can check out some pre-mastered mixes here.
